How to keep your house clean

giz clean How to keep your house cleanWe know there are tons of blog posts about “washing dishes right after you use them” or “putting away 5 things in every room every time you walk into them”, but we feel like those don’t work for everyone. For us, our water takes 5 minutes just to get luke warm, so we just wash all my dishes at once. Also, we feel like its impossible for us to get into a routine of “putting away 5 things every time we walk into a room” when 9/10 of the times we walk into that room we are in a rush so we just grab what we need and leave.

So as an alternative we came up with is to devote 30 minutes our time every single day, to picking up our living quarters. In 30 minutes we have managed to do all of our dishes, make our bed, put all of our clothes away (you know, those ones I took out of the closet that morning and decided we didn’t want to wear but was in too much of a rush to hang them back up), pick up the rest of our lab quarters, do a quick sweep around the lab, and thoroughly clean whatever needs it.

The “thoroughly cleaning whatever needs it” part is important. Whether it’s your bathtub, toilet, sink, a certain floor needs to be mopped, dusting, you name it. Some of these things may add a couple extra minutes to your routine, but in the long run it will save you time. We are VERY clean people, and before we started doing this everyday we were doing a deep clean to our entire lab once a week. Now that we just clean what needs to be cleaned every day we do a deep clean about every month and a half. You would be surprised at how much you can get done in 30 minutes.
